Woohoo this is it. A new year, a new beginning with Verdigris Creative Studio. Opening tomorrow 2nd January 2013, 304 Broadway, Stratford, Taranaki, New Zealand, so deep breath in and away we go. Bring it on, 2013, there is so much to be grateful for, and with an open mind, positive attitude and forgiving heart I am ready for more adventures. With my wonderful husband at my side there is nothing that I am afraid to try and that is why it is so exciting for me to bring Verdigris to life, to encourage, and motivate others to find or awaken their inner creative so that the joy and beauty every form of Art, Craft and Creativity can be enjoyed by everyone. To practice any art, When I refer to Art or creativity it is whatever you want it to be. It can be painting, drawing, gardening, music, sport, sewing, writing, cooking ... the list can go on forever, so pick something and play with it for a while and make it your "Art".
He may look just like a simple little pony now but he is destined to be a magestic carousel horse. He has already had a new 'skin' and been filled with styrofoam to make him solid so he is now ready to be purched on his pole and be decorated. Hopefully it wont be long before he is prancing proudly, Im sure this little pony will make a fine horse.
There never seems to be enough hours in a day to achieve all the things we need or want to get done but with a bit of planning it's quite amazing how much you can fit into one 24 hour period. I have always lived close to the wire so to speak when it comes to getting things done usually finishing things at the last minute but with just over 500 hours until Christmas day Im going to need to sharpen up on my organisational skills if I am going to have any chance of doing all the things I need to do before then. The problem with me is that when I have an idea it usually multiplies into about 10 within a very short time and I just cant leave any of them. I think my new years resolution could be learning how to focus on one thing at a time but where my list of ideas for next year stands already that just isn't going to happen. Oh well you cant rush these things!
I am so grateful to be where I am in my life today. Everything seems brighter and fresher and more interesting, even the simplest things are exciting and fun.
It was three years ago today that I packed up my car, stepped out of my comfort zone and moved to Taranaki on what I called my 'adventure' I think my kids probably called it mid life crisis but whatever name you give it, it has turned out to be the most amazing journey. I was on a mission to 'find myself', I had no idea what I was looking for, or what I was hoping to find, I just knew that I wasnt content with the path my life was on and that if I wanted changes then I had to make them happen. Heading off into the unknown on this 'adventure' to a place where I didnt know a soul, gave me an opportunity to find more than just 'myself'. I found my husband, I found the most amazing job at Access Radio Taranaki and now I have found Verdigris Creative Studio. All of these wonderful things have come about purely because I have learned to open my eyes, my heart and my mind and to trust and accept WHAT IS and when something presents itself I grab it with passion whereas before I would just let it slip by. Contemplating the thought of change is the hardest thing, doing it is easy. I just love the fact that now I know anything is possible and I believe this new venture with Verdigris Studio was part of the big plan just waiting to happen. Who knows where this new adventure will lead but I'm going to have fun finding out. Verdigris Creative Studio is one step closer to being a working studio. Its been a hard slog the last few weeks and for a while it didnt look like any of the hard work was making a difference. When you first go into a building you can imagine the beauty peeping through the peeling paint and worn carpet and the vision of what things will look like and how you will go about doing it seems so clear at the time. Then when you start the work the reality of it is that every job you undertake especially in a very old building like ours actually takes about three times as long and costs about three times as much as you had planned on. I have no idea and would not even like to hazard a guess as to when we will be ready to open but in the meantime we are having fun do it and when it is finished it will be an amazing and inspiring place to create in.
