Here are the instructions for the next 3 simple backgrounds. If there is anything you dont understand or need more specific instructions just leave a message on Contact us page.
4. Relief paint Using relief paint in a bottle with nozzle draw a pattern or random design over the entire background, leave to dry then paint with burnt umber. When dry float a watery gold wash made with acrylic gold paint and water 1 part paint -3 parts water over the entire piece, alternatively you can mix up the wash and put it in a spray bottle and spray it on. Once the wash is completely dry use your finger to rub gold paint over the raised design to highlight it. |
5. Masking Tape.
Pieces of masking tape are ripped and randomly stuck over the entire background. Paint all over the stuck down tape with gold acrylic paint, when dry use about a 50mm piece of black oil pastel and gently rub it over the piece highlighting the joins of the tape. You can use any colour paint you like for this so try different contrasting colours of pastel. Seal your background after the pastel has been put on so it doesn't smudge. You can use crayon if you dont have pastel but crayon works as a resist so you are limited what you can put over top of it.
6. Texture Paste & Stencil.
A stencil with all over pattern is best for this. Lay the stencil on your background, use pallet knife or old credit or store card to scoop out the texture paste or impasto gel and spread it evenly over the stencil. Remove excess and gently pull up stencil to leave the raised design behind. Leave to dry then paint desired colour, when paint is dry rub the raised pattern with gold paint to highlight. Once again you can use any colours you desire with this and it will look amazing every time. This is a really great technique to use, I love it because you can use it to cover up mistakes or just to give a lift to a piece of art that needs that little bit extra. You can use purchaced stencils or make your own.
